In Ep. 02 of NoBody Talks to BoA, the global star enjoys a nice dinner and conversation with best friend and label mate TVXQ’s Yunho. The singers show off their fantastic bond, reminiscing and talking about their lengths of time as idols. In particular, BoA recalls the moment she first met Yunho. The hilarious moment happened while they were in Japan eating at a restaurant where Yunho asked BoA to call her oppa because he was older than her.
“I refused, saying that you didn’t go to the same school with me,” BoA says as they burst out into laughter.
Yunho adds, “we hadn’t talked to each other for a long time after that.”
Performance Director, Shim Jaewon, joins later and discusses the ideas and plans behind BoA’s 20th anniversary. The 202020 documentary, which pays homage and tribute to her career, is revealed to have been suggested by Jaewon. The film intended to reinterpret her classics hits, with Jaewon and BoA telling how many of the staff and dancers felt nostalgic during the filming, almost as if they were “time traveling.”
As the episode continues, we learn just how in charge BoA has been of her career since the early days. She mentions that the song Spark, from 2004’s My Name album, was supposed to be the title track instead of My Name. She was against it, stating, “that’s when the battle between me and executive director [Lee Soo Man] started.” The same happened with Girls On Top as Lee Soo Man did not like the part of the choreography where BoA’s on the dancers back, but she loved it.
In the end, BoA admits that she no longer wishes to concern herself with topping the charts or whether somethings popular. To her, she just wants to do “what I want to do and what I’m good at. What makes me look as cool as I [can] be.”
One of the most important things that she says she can do is “try to leave our own artwork.”
You can catch BoA’s reality show NoBody Talks To BoA on Naver’s Beyond LIVE Channel every Tuesday & Thursday.
BoA’s 10th album, BETTER, releases Dec. 1st, 6PM KST.
Wow, in 2004 she was 17 or 18. I love that she was standing up for herself and directing her own career from such a young age!
