When it comes to emerging stars in the Korean Hip-Hop scene, there are few better than Woo. The 22-year-old AOMG signee has a unique style, thought-provoking lyrics, and true raw talent. Over the last year the artist has been developing a reputation for consistency and quality, and now, fresh off of his debut solo concert ‘What Day is it Today??,’ the rapper has released digital single “SS.”
Featuring Simon Dominic and Hoody, as well as being produced by KHYO, expectations were naturally high for this springtime offering.
And, as now expected from Woo, it more than delivered. Beginning with a mellow guitar riff, the song quickly develops into a relaxing seasonal track, complete with undertones of intensity. The clever flow of Woo’s purposefully monotonous rapping compliments Hoody’s silky-smooth delivery of the chorus perfectly and helps manifest the song as a creation full of subtle genius.
Simon D’s near show-stealing verse helps add more layers to this already packed release, and further allows for the strong chorus to shine through unchallenged. The hook itself may be something straight out of a pop song in terms of its catchiness, but this is a track that truly thrives in moments of poignancy and precise subtlety.
All in all, ”SS” is a perfectly produced, sublimely executed track that feels tailor-made for the upcoming warmer months. It’s relaxing in its energy, but thought-provoking in its content, making it truly quintessential listening.
