On July 29, Nam Joo Hyuk was a featured guest at the 'Penshoppe Fan-Con' in Manila, along with former 2NE1 member Dara. During the event, an incident arose which was captured as a live video dispersed online.
In a group photo session, some fans from the event tussled for Nam Joo Hyuk all at once, groping and pushing against the actor's body as they posed. One fan was seen putting her hands around Nam Joo Hyuk's waist, while others continued to touch other parts of his body with aggression.

In the video, the MCs of the event were also heard asking fans to "be careful", and that there was "no holding" permitted. Nevertheless, many fans were spotted disregarding the warning. Even after the photo-taking, different crowds of fans went for Nam Joo Hyuk, refusing to step away from his intimate space.
After watching the video, netizens commented that the fans' actions were "inappropriate", that certain gestures were downright "sexual abuse". Judging by Nam Joo Hyuk's expression, many netizens also concluded the moment was discomforting enough to be severely "problematic".
