A total of 51 people were arrested at Incheon International Airport in early April. It's reported that the smuggling first started about two years ago in 2015. 

Male smugglers hid five or six gold bars sizing 3cm x 3cm and weighing 200 grams in their rectums while the female smugglers hid the gold in their rectums or vaginas.

The value of the gold revealed to be about 113.5 billion KRW or about 100 million USD. This is the highest value of gold confiscated in a single case. 

The gold price in Korea tends to be higher due to a 15 percent additional tax put on gold products. A KCS official explained that gold smuggling is an easy money making business because of the price gap. 

To resolve the issue, a sweeping crackdown on gold smugglers will be soon implemented, according to the official of KCS.
