The woman who falsely accused actor Uhm Tae Woong of sexual assault has been sentenced to jail.
After allegations of sexual assault came up last August, Uhm Tae Woong was acquitted of rape, but he was fined for soliciting prostitution. On April 28, the accuser, Ms. Kwon, was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison as well as 40 hours of a sexual assault program. In the first trial against Ms. Kwon, the judge, Oh Taek Won, found there was an implicit and implied agreement on her part as she had engaged in three different known instances of sexual intercourse with the actor.
Judge Oh also found there was no evidence of threats, assault, or force on the part of Uhm Tae Woong in the audio recordings submitted as evidence, stating the exchanges between the actor and Kwon were consensual. It was also found Ms. Kwon had collected the recordings and other evidence of their sexual relations in order to blackmail the star. At the time she demanded 150 million Won ($132,220.87 USD) from Uhm Tae Woong, Ms. Kwon had been found guilty of upfront fraud in a different case as well. The judge added the accuser had damaged Uhm Tae Woong's image as a celebrity as well as his psychological state.
The massage parlor's owner, who pleaded guilty, was sentenced to 2 years in prison, a 5-year probation, a 16 million Won fine (~$14,000 USD), 40 hours of a sexual violence program, and 80 hours of community service for being involved in prostitution, blackmail, and non-consensual recording.
Ms. Kwon previously stated on April 11, "I am deeply repentant concerning the sexual acts."
