Hwayoung's recent statement about drinking has become a topic of criticism. 

Back on the February 8 episode of 'Taxi', Hwayoung talked about when and how she first learned to drink and revealed that her mom was her drinking buddy in middle school.

Following the broadcast, netizens criticized Hwayoung for underage drinking and also calling her mom a 'drinking buddy'. On an online community, netizens commented, "Hul.. drinking buddies?? It's really wrong to be drinking at a young age", "If you say if it's okay because it was with her mom then does that mean it's ok for her to smoke and go to clubs if it's with her mom?", "She's so thoughtless for showing that off", "Drinking buddies with your mom in middle school? I cannot understand this at all."
