Yonsei International Summer School (YISS) opened its doors in 1985 and since then, YISS has become an integral part of campus life based on a unique blend of Korean and global cultures. YISS continues to grow and evolve, accommodating the needs of a rapidly changing student body and meeting the challenges of a fast-paced global society.
This summer, Yonsei invites you to experience the legendary "Yonsei Spirit" and
build an unforgettable summer full of warm memories in the heart of Seoul. You will make
life-long friends, build new networks, expand and deepen your academic and
cultural horizons, and experience life in one of Asia's coolest, yet largely
undiscovered metropolises of 10 million.
YISS is one of the oldest and innovative international summer school programs in Korea. Each year marks new improvements and revamps in order to highlight growing interest in various academic fields. YISS has a very diverse student body group: In 2015, there were about 1,200 students from 26 different countries and 75 local Yonsei University students. Yonsei University has very strong partnership with UC (University of California schools of United States) and every year numerous key faculty members and about 200 students come to Korea to be part of YISS. By joining YISS, you can make friends with local Yonsei University and students from all over the world.
In 2016, YISS is offering about 100 courses in 7 different subject areas. Variety in courses is surely one of the advantages of YISS but there is more to take a look at: In summer, all students wish to spend their time in a more meaningful and useful manner but since as a vacation everybody needs to have more fun and enjoy moments of break time. YISS is the way to enjoy summer not only academically but culturally as well!
YISS takes place in Yonsei University's main campus, Sinchon, which is located in the heart of the lively and vibrant urban culture city, Seoul. Sinchon is one of the hottest spots in Korea, where all Korean youngsters and college students mingle and have fun. There are countless festivals and street performances throughout the year and everybody is welcomed to participate in the events.
Every Friday, there are several cultural excursions and special activities arranged by YISS for students to join. Also YISS organizes a field trip before the summer school starts, which is the most pleasant and exciting way to explore Korean history, culture and its scenic landscape. This year YISS is going to Jeju Island, which is the largest island in Korea and a great tourist attraction for both foreigners and Korean locals.
There are some students who want to have some internship experience since it is always good to have multiple internship experiences on one's resume. YISS also has a Summer Internship Program for the participating students. (* Please note that internship is not always guaranteed since the authority of selecting an intern candidate is on the HR officer of the corporate and the research center.)
