A Korean female celebrity has made history as the first to win a Daesang as both a singer and an actor.
On December 21, Jang Na Ra received the prestigious Daesang award at the '2024 SBS Drama Awards.' The singer-turned-actress was honored for her outstanding performance in the drama 'Good Partner,' marking her first-ever Daesang as an actress.
This, however, is not Jang Na Ra's first Daesang. In 2002, she won the grand prize at two year-end music awards hosted by KBS and MBC. These awards came thanks to her mega-hit song "Sweet Dreams," which dominated music charts and swept music show awards upon its release.
The year 2002 was a milestone for Jang Na Ra in more ways than one. Alongside her musical success, she also made waves as an actress, starring in the hit sitcom 'New Nonstop' and the popular drama 'Cheerful Girl.'
With a career that has flourished across both singing and acting, Jang Na Ra has now solidified her place in history as the first celebrity to win Daesang awards in both fields on Korea's public broadcasting channels.
While Jang Na Ra's achievement is groundbreaking, it’s worth noting that other multi-talented stars have also earned dual Daesangs in different categories. Lee Hyori has won as both a singer and an entertainer, and Lee Seung Gi has achieved this honor as both an actor and an entertainer.
Netizens shared their excitement and admiration:
"Insane. Omg, congrats."
"Acting + singing, that's insanely difficult ㄷㄷㄷㄷ, so impressive."
"Personally, I think they should have received the acting award long ago. Truly, congratulations."
"I thought Jang Nara would win the grand prize this time."
"Her character Cha Eun Kyung was absolutely the best."
"I teared up a little while listening to the acceptance speech."
Congratulations to Jang Na Ra!
