KBS' 'Music Bank' is going through some criticism among netizens, who have proposed that the show is actually putting more emphasis on album sales than digital sales, rather than the other way around.
'Music Bank' says that they currently calculate rankings by 65% from digital sales, 5% from album sales, 20% from the song's broadcast appearances, and 10% from viewer feedback.
However, some fans are saying that in reality, the album sales, which are heavily affected by fandoms, have much more effect in the ranking than digital sales.
On the 'Music Bank' forum, one person wrote, "Why are digital sales becoming further from music charts?" and added, "Reveal the ranking so that it is fair."
Another person wrote, "I can not understand why 5% of album sales win against 65% of digital sales."
A different netizen wrote, "Who would watch [a show] where 1st place goes to someone who doesn't matter to the general public?", referring to the fact that songs that are popular to the general public are the ones that dominate digitally. Another netizen alo said, "Stop shortening and cutting the length of the performances, and bring a higher standard of performance instead."
Comments pointed out that although digital sales appear to be worth more than album sales by looking at just the ranking system numbers presented, the album sales portion actually has more weight than digital in actuality.

It looks like the criticism towards the show is directly reflected in its viewer ratings. 'Music Bank' has not had high ratings in the recent weeks, hovering around 2% or less. Even their episode in Hanoi, Vietnam on March 28, had a huge seated audience of 22,000 fans, but raked in a 2.3% rating on KBS.
