Shin Hae Chul's family had sued the hospital and its director after the singer's death last year when he tragically passed away on October 27. He had undergone surgery by director 'K' at the hospital on October 17, and afterwards he had suffered high fever and pain. However, despite these symptoms director 'K' had assured the singer and his family that these are just some side effects while recovering from surgery and did not seem to take the necessary measures to see if something was wrong. In the end, Shin Hae Chul went under emergency operation, but could not recover and passed away on October 27.
The family insisted that the cause of his death was from a pericardial puncture that came about during a stomach reduction procedure done by director 'K' without Shin Hae Chul's consent. An autopsy was conducted and the findings confirmed that there was a high probability that there was damage to the pericardium and that director 'K' had performed a stomach surgery that wasn't necessary.
The police have revealed that after their investigation and consultation with medical experts, they've found that Shin Hae Chul was already showing symptoms of peritonitis (inflammation of the abdomen's inner wall) when director 'K' had operated. However director 'K' had misinterpreted the symptoms that Shin Hae Chul was showing even after the surgery and had discharged him from the hospital. Even though the singer returned again complaining of pain, director 'K' only gave him some painkillers and oxygen and did not take any other measures.
The report of the investigation will forwarded over to the prosecution within this week.
