Several comparison posts have sprouted up online, with one even boldly titled, "Red Velvet new single MV plagiarized?". In this particular post, the netizen introduces the topic by saying, "Hello. First of all, I don't enjoy writing about this difficult issue but because many people seem to be misunderstanding and are spreading distorted information, I am making this post. I would be thankful if you kept in mind that I have no intention of putting Red Velvet down as you read this."
The netizen then posts a series of pictures from Red Velvet's latest MV "Ice Cream Cake" and B1A4's MV "Solo Day" to compare some of the scenes shown in the videos. While shots from "Solo Day" can be seen on the right, "Ice Cream Cake" shots can be seen on the left. The similarities between the angles and the settings are pretty uncanny.
The location also seem to be exactly the same as further shown by the screencapture below with Red Velvet's MV on top and B1A4's below.
B1A4 fans have pointed out that Red Velvet's MV copies not only B1A4's MV location in Los Angeles, California, but also their concept, camera angles, and scenes.
The netizen in the mentioned post writes, "Although seeing the scenes of them driving down the road with their hair flying, walking while pushing a shopping cart, and eating food while sitting at a red-cushioned lounge may not make one think of plagiarism, I felt that it was a case of plagiarism when considering the MV's mood, camera work, and the content of the scenes."
Coming across the post, others chipped in their opinions, writing comments like, "Seeing this post shocked me, but the two MVs are a bit more similar than I thought they would be...? Seems like fans will be mad about this...," "This company [SM] is so big, so they're able to quickly bury issues like this. Honestly, the two MVs do seem a bit similar," and, "The issue is not that they filmed at a similar site but that they did the similar scenes at that similar site."
The MVs for "Solo Day" and "Ice Cream Cake" have been provided below so you can compare for yourselves:
What do you guys think? Are the videos similar enough for Red Velvet's MV to be called out for plagiarism?
