EXID has a remarkable success story. As a girl group that debuted back in 2012, the group received public recognition when a fancam of Hani performing "Up & Down" received widespread attention. Thanks to that fancam, "Up & Down" reappeared on the charts and climbed ranks months after the single was first released. Although "Up & Down" was released back in August, the girls were able to win their first music program award on January 8.
When asked for their thoughts on their success, EXID answered, "Although there have been fancams that became hot topics, we've heard that there hasn't been a case where a song would rank highly because of a fancam [before]." They continued, "These days other agencies are using social networking sites to actively promote, and we realized the power of the internet."
When asked how they reacted to the rising popularity of "Up & Down," member Junghwa responded, "At first, our friends told us, 'Your video is a hot topic on social networking sites,' and our song entered into the top 100. It rose to 82nd place and we thought it would stop there. Yet as our song ranking continued to climb we were amazed, anxious, and scared. Afterwards we became conflicted; our concern was mixed with several emotions. We can't believe that this kind of thing happened to us."
Hani also mentioned her excitement for her possible appearance on 'Real Men,' as she stated, "Like a dream, the possibility of me joining 'Real Men' is currently being discussed; I've been wanting to film 'Real Men' ever since its 'Female Soldier Special' broadcast."
However, as much as the girls are happy about their success, they are also concerned with maintaining it as LE noted, "I hope that we don't stay as a group that's just floating on a current, [hot] issue and that we do well in our future activities as well."
LE and Hani elaborated, "We want to live out this current interest." They said, "Before, whenever we made something it felt like we didn't do anything, but now we're gaining more and more awareness."
