He not only covered the song but made a music video to go along with it. He explained, "It's Kim Taehyung. It's my first time releasing a cover song. I wondered what song to cover, so I got suggestions through Twitter, and an ARMY suggested 'Someone Like You'. I heard this song and wondered how it would sound if it was my style, so I tried it~. I tweeted a spoiler that wasn't really a spoiler, but still kind of like a spoiler. I also wrote in the cafe that Jungkook couldn't be the only one doing covers, but no one knew hahaha."
"The reason why I released a cover song is because I felt so sorry that I was just receiving the congratulations from ARMYs like last year on the first birthday I spent with you. I wanted to give a present to ARMYs. It's a happy day, so I'll give a present to ARMYs and and receive congratulations from ARMYs~."
"It was a little hard because it was a pop song, but I wanted to let you guys hear because this is the kind of emotional vocals that I wanted~. To be honest, I also recorded 'Sofa' like Jungkook did, but I didn't think we should overlap, so I decided on 'Someone Like You'. And since it was a present, I didn't want to just give you a song. I became Director Tae because I thought having an MV-like video will be cool, so I planned the directing the camera line myself~. I went to the alleyway near the house and very quickly... filmed in 16 minutes and came back to the dorms because it was cold... Anyway, even if it's lacking, think of it as that you're taking care of a child and look over me and keep giving me love."
"Ah, I'm embarassed. Then listen. Kim Taehyung sings 'Someone Like You'."
