Earlier today, the National Forensic Service (NFS) of South Korea held a press conference to explain the results of the autopsy on Yoo Byung Un's badly decomposed body to the public. Due to Yoo Byung Un's involvement in the Sewol ferry incident, in that he was believed to be its de facto owner, the people of Korea want to know how the most wanted man in the nation had come to his end. Unfortunately, instead of providing concrete answers, the NFS' announcement prompted more questions, as they stated that the cause of Yoo Byung Un's death continues to remain a mystery.

According to director Seo Joong Seok, "Although we inspected the body for poison, signs of asphyxiation, chronic illness, and other external forces, due to the severe decay of the organs and tissue damage, we were unable to determine the cause of death."
The NFS estimates that Yoo Byung Un died around May 25th, just three days after his arrest warrant was issued. His body was found 18 days later on June 12th, at which point his body was severely decomposed. Thus, the NFS has been having difficulty conducting its autopsy, as Yoo Byung Un's arms, legs, chests, face, neck, and a sufficient amount of muscle, skin, and soft tissue have been destroyed. The NFS was only able to identify Yoo Byung Un by his teeth (dental records), skull, and a DNA test, which matched him with the DNA of his older brother.
Mr. Seo assures the public that the NFS will continue to investigate, as he states, "We are determined to do our best to conduct an investigation based solely on scientific analysis. [...] Although we have our doubts, and don't have enough evidence for a concrete answer, we will inform [the public] of our results in detail."
