Here's Five Things that we weren't supposed to hear on Episode 3 of 'Heirs'.
5. Rachel's mother is lying to everyone back home about why Rachel visited the US.
Rachel (Kim Ji Won) came to the US because she missed Tan (Lee Min Ho), but her mother (Yoo Son Ha) is telling everyone that Tan sent for her- it's a really big little white lie. Rachel and her mother are both very invested in making Tan and Rachel appear to be happily engaged, despite the fact that Tan doesn't want anything to do with this marriage. I'm not sure how they expect to keep up this charade since this lie's clearly a ticking time bomb.

4. Hyo Shin's in the school broadcasting club.
Hyo Shin (Kang Ha Neul) is 100 days away from a big, important exam. It's clear from the conversation at dinner in episode two that his family and other superiors have incredibly high standards for him- they were even considering taking him out of Jeguk High and moving him to a school with a stronger legacy. This plan is kaboshed when someone points out that Hyo Shin can just, you know, be the legacy of Jeguk. No pressure. Vomiting after dinner and secretly being in broadcasting club are just the tip of the Hyo Shin's-dirty-little-secrets iceberg, I think.
On a somewhat related note, I think it's interesting that Hyo Shin seems to be such a calming presence- he manages to bring out both Young Do (Kim Woo Bin) and Bo Na (f(x)'s Krystal)'s tame sides without even trying- no small feat, considering their microscopic fuses. While he may externally be one of the most calming characters on the show, there are hints that he may be facing one of the strongest internal tempests.
3. Ki Ae is plotting Ji Sook and Mr. Kim's divorce
So, Ki Ae (Kim Sung Ryung)'s a country girl, eh? She and her sister are plotting to hire a private eye to catch Ji Sook (Park Joon Geum) cheating, which would be grounds for divorce and would make way for Ki Ae to step up and marry Mr. Kim. Is Ji Sook really cheating or is this just a suspicion? Hmm.
We don't find out, because Ki Ae is interrupted when she suddenly notices her housekeeper, Hee Nam (Kim Mi Kyung), and is mortified to realize that she heard the whole conversation. Hee Nam is either on Ki Ae's side in this (as she was with hiding the wine from Won (Cho Jin Hyuk) in episode one), or remains neutral on everything, and it'll be interesting to see how her story plays out once Eun Sang (Park Shin Hye) comes back from the US, suddenly tangled up with all the Jeguk chaebols.
2. Won and Tan's sad reunion
It's been no secret since episode one that there's some animosity between Tan and Won, but this episode shows us that Tan actually misses his brother a lot- he even describes Won to Eun Sang as the person he likes most. Tan and Won's first reunion in three years is heartbreaking, with Tan quietly trying to earn even a little of his hyung's approval and Won completely shutting him down.
This relationship runs somewhat parallel to the relationship between Rachel and Tan- Rachel wanted Tan to say she'd gotten prettier, which he did, but with none of the fondness she wanted to come with it. Tan just wanted his brother to say 'you've gotten taller', and then his brother fires back with 'is that all you've gotten for yourself in America?' That burns, Won. That burns.
1. Does he think we're in a couple motel?!
Okay, so this one wasn't particularly shocking, or even a secret, it just made me laugh out loud which is why it takes the number one spot. Number one doesn't always have to be dramatic!
It always bothers me in dramas when characters talk out loud to themselves in a situation where no real person would be talking out loud to themselves, and often the other characters in the scene somehow magically can't hear them. So when Eun Sang wondered out loud to herself if Tan thought they were in a love hotel, it cracked me up
that Tan actually answered her.
There were soooooooo many things to talk about in this episode, it was really hard to pick just five points. We didn't even touch on the fact that Chan Young (CNBLUE's Minhyuk) is possibly the best friend ever, or how great the banter between Eun Sang and Tan is, or how hilarious Eun Sang's constant babbling about horror movies is.
We also didn't talk about how interesting Tan and Rachel's relationship is- while so far we've been given the impression that Tan really dislikes Rachel, in episode three we find out that he actually used to really admire her and feel inadequate around her, and that she was the one uninterested in the engagement when the topic first came up because she had a crush on Won and saw Tan as a little kid. In her conversation with Won, we start to see that both she and Won have softer, more likeable sides to their personalities.
We also didn't talk about whatever is going on between Chan Young's dad and Rachel's mom, which seems to be its own ball of crazy. Didn't talk about the fact that we still
don't know the reason behind the fallout between Tan and Young Do. Speaking of Young Do, we still haven't talked about his and his father's relationship. Also didn't talk about the fact that if Tan and Eun Sang had stuck the floor mats of the car under the wheels when it got stuck in the dirt, they probably could have driven away just fine.
If anything, this show is sure giving plenty to talk about! Be sure to catch episode three on Drama Fever and let us know in the comments what you make of this week's developments!
