T-ara's Hwayoung took to her Twitter to remind fans of the Gwangju Democratic movement that took place in South Korea on May 18, 1980.
Hwayoung tweeted, "5/18 marks the 32nd anniversary of the Pro-Democracy Movement... I will not forget the mindset of sacrifice of those who struggled against the unjust regime and authority!"
Later Hwayoung also added, "For those who want to learn more about the 5/18, please visit the 5/18 memorial cultural center and the Mangwoldong National Cemetery in Gwangju! I'm a proud Gwangju citizen~^?^ ."
The Gwangju uprising occurred after President Park Chung-Hee was assassinated in 1979. It was one of the first movements to counter the military regime that had a tight grasp on South Korea during that time. May 18 is a national day of commemoration to respect the victims who died during the movement.
Fans commented, "Wow, I didn't know you were so patriotic ???," and "I'm from Gwangju too!"
