Were there a little too many mistakes to call them careless mistakes?
If you have no idea what I'm talking about, here's a hint: have you ever noticed the numerous amounts of spelling and worded errors that have occurred over and over on KBS' hit drama, 'IRIS?'
Many netizens have noticed them and are slightly disappointed that the editing wasn't well taken care of. However, it is reasonable to think many people were highly expecting this drama series to be almost perfect because of its 18 million dollar budget.
The main reason why people are complaining about the careless errors in 'IRIS' is because the 'comedic engrish' ruins the atmosphere of the serious drama at times.
For the past 19 days, there have been 12 episodes that have been aired and monitored and guess what? There were already 8 engrish errors! If you do the math, the errors actually occurred every ten minutes within a 70 minute span!
The engrish words appeared on mostly computer screens as an attempted English message.
Here are the following examples:
1. When character Choi Seung Hee (Kim Tae Hee) logged onto the NSS server, the word SUCESS appeared instead of SUCCESS.
2. Character Kim Hyun Jun (Lee Byung Hun) opened a file titled, 'MISSINON' (instead of mission) containing the details of his parents murder.
3. The status of a deceased target was marked as 'LIFE' instead of 'DEAD.'
4. The North Korean terrorist base was being barged into after the entry system was in the middle of 'SCANING.' (Scanning)
5. According to an article in the drama, the priest's death was a MUDRER (murder)
6. On the computer screen that the NSS article chief shows to Choi Seung Hee, (Kim Tae Hee) The footer was titled as 'IFORMATION.' (Information)
7. When they were checking Choi Seung Hee's (Kim Tae Hee) blood type, the blood type title was actually worded as 'BODY TYPE.'
8. CCTV was titled as CLOSE-CIRCUIT TELEVISION, (Closed Circuit Television) and the word 'satellite' was spelled as 'SATELITE'
9. The Scientific Investigation Chief logged on the server as the 'SCIENCE INVESTIGATION CHIFE.'
10. The early episodes of 'IRIS' had the word 'CORD NUMBER' instead of code number.
There were comments about these errors such as, "I really wouldn't mind these errors but they frequently appear to the point where it becomes distracting.
However, some viewers think this can be a good thing! They believe that, "fixing such subtle errors from such an epic drama can only lead to improvement"
Since 'IRIS' will also be aired in Japan, many believe that they should really be careful and fix all these subtle errors.
It really seems like no one can escape the hawk like eyes of the Korean netizen, but these mistakes were too damn obvious. Don't you think?
Episode 13 will air on November 25, 2009.
