The late MBC weathercaster Oh Yoanna, who passed away in September 2024, continues to be at the center of a highly publicized workplace bullying incident.

Since the news of her passing came to light, there have been various allegations and details revealed by her bereaved family members, shedding light on the mistreatment the late weathercaster had to endure.

On February 3, the bereaved family member revealed more details of the bullying through the MBN program 'News Fighter.'

Translation:

"About 98% of the bullying was from [name], and the remaining three (perpetrators) were those who lightly pushed the person standing on the edge of a cliff. We all knew that [name] had been bullying Oh Yoanna."

Translation: 

"She kept telling us (her family) and calling us while crying, and we knew she had been going to the hospital because of it. It all started when [name] was late and she was cut from the program. They put Oh Yoanna, who had only been there for three months, in that situation. That's where her misfortune began."

Translation:

"[Name] took on the role of a senior, claiming it was for her (Yoanna's) own good. It was verbal abuse disguised as ongoing guidance. She gaslighted Oh Yoanna, saying things like, 'It's your fault,' and 'I really like you. I'm actually doing this because I care about you'."

Translation:

"Then, they all left (the group chat) and (created a separate one where) they would viciously gossip. However, one of the people in that group chat shared this information with Oh Yoanna."

The family stated that Oh Yoanna had openly expressed being bullied at the workplace by her fellow weathercasters. The bereaved family continues to support their claims that the late weathercaster had left a 17-page letter naming the individuals who bullied her.

On January 23, Oh Yoanna’s family filed a lawsuit at the Seoul Central District Court seeking damages for workplace harassment against her colleagues. In response, MBC has established an investigative committee, led by an external expert, to uncover the truth.

Meanwhile, the police have launched an internal investigation after receiving complaints through the National Petition Service.
