ONEWE's member GIUK has unveiled his second solo album.
On the 15th at 6 p.m., he released the mini 2nd album 'Phenomenon : Blue of the Boy.' In this new release, GIUK included eight self-composed songs that evoke different genres of movies, capturing various emotions that youth experiences at every moment.
In this album, GIUK once again took charge of producing all the tracks, showcasing his expanded musical capabilities.
Here is an interview with GIUK:
Q: This is your second mini-album as a solo artist. How do you feel?
A: I am very happy to be able to share the songs I worked hard on with the world. I am grateful to the company that believes in my music, and I am excited to present the new 8 songs to WEVE (official fan club).
Q: Can you provide a brief introduction to 'Phenomenon : Blue of the Boy'?
A: This album, centered around the keyword 'movies,' expresses each emotion I feel in various genres. Like the waves, both big and small, represented by 'blue,' I depicted the diverse stories of youth that are not always smooth.
Q: If you could point out some listening points for the title track 'Scratch on My Soul'?
A: The song talks about the happy memories with a loved one gradually fading from memory. While the theme is poignant and urgent, the sound is bright. Despite the intense band sound, the overall feel is lyrical, making it an appealing listen. The piano melody, serving as the main theme, is a key listening point.
Q: Why did you choose 'movies' as the theme, and is there a specific image you want to show with this album?
A: I usually enjoy watching movies, and I thought it would be interesting to create an album by categorizing it into different movie genres. Through this opportunity, I want to showcase my musicality that can encompass various genres.
Q: Like the previous work, this album is composed entirely of self-composed songs. What did you focus on during the process?
A: While the first mini-album 'Psycho Xybernetics: TURN OVER' was like an introduction as my first solo work, I focused on sharing the music I want to make in the second mini-album Blue of the Boy.' I worked to create songs that showcase my strengths and preferences while adding more popularity for listeners.
Q: Members of RBW Boys, such as Mamamoo's Moonbyul and ONEUS's Edo, supported you. Any memorable episodes during the production process?
A: I have been working on mixtapes with Eedo even before, so we completed all the work in a short time. Moonbyul really liked the song we worked on together this time. Gratefully, she even did additional recordings and tried various mixes to enhance the completeness of the music. I appreciate both of them for helping me in their busy schedules.
Q: The album's title suggests experiencing the 'blue' of life. Have you ever experienced the 'blue' in life, and if so, how did you overcome it?
A: Looking back, the path I took in starting and continuing with music was challenging and difficult. I had a lot of thoughts this year, but I was able to make music until now because I had ONEWE and WEVE. Recently, to overcome difficult thoughts, I took some time to travel and emotionally reorganize. I hope we can all think positively.
Q: A word to the fans who have been waiting for GIUK's solo comeback?
A: WEVE, I worked really hard on this album, so please look forward to it and listen to it a lot! I love you! Please take good care of me during this promotion too!
Okay, that is one hell of a riff and hook!! If you're into Korean rock music, this is actual rock at its finest. Can't wait to hear the rest of this album! I'll have to give it a thorough listen today. Good work, Giuk!
