Singer IU shared her thoughts on society's tendency to view K-pop idols disparagingly.
On January 28 KST, EDAM Entertainment revealed a teaser video for IU's upcoming documentary, 'Pieces : 29th Winter'. Here, IU was asked to share her thoughts on the tendency to cast a disparaging gaze toward idols. To this, IU replied, "Personally, I don't agree with [the statement] that 'idols are different from musicians', or 'idols are different from artists'. I don't think idols are less serious than artists or musicians. Thus, if someone says one is above the other, or below the other, then I want to say that I don't agree with that. An idol is something good."
Meanwhile, IU's documentary 'Pieces : 29th Winter' will be released on March 16.
Yes, I don’t agree that IDOL is less than artist. Both are hardworking entities who deliver their passion, their life, their sweats, and their voices to the audience. Hence when I see several IDOL group who only can do LIPSYNC scamming their audience and behaving more like a Backing Dancer instead of singer my blood boiling. I don’t blame peoples who look down on K-Pop as they thinks that all K-Pop acts only sell their looks and dancing skill without actually able to sing, who to blame? Of course those LIPSYNC-er and dancing group who claimed themselves as IDOL/K-pop act. Because in reality, many IDOL/K-pop acts who’s sing their lungs out, producing good music, and break their legs deliver an amazing performance. Any perfomers who can’t sing live and only focus on dancing, shouldn’t be given microphone. Period! By doing this there’s will be no more trick and treat game scamming the audience/viewer in the industry and the confidence in peoples / GP can slowly build up to acknowledge K-pop acts /IDOL.
