tvN's upcoming historical drama 'The Crowned Clown' is ready to bring viewers a shocking secret inside the royal palace.
'The Crowned Clown' is a tvN version drama remake of the story of Gwanghaegun, the 15th king of the Joseon dynasty who was deposed in a coup d'état. A 2012 film called 'Masquerade', dealing with the same historical king starring Lee Byung Hun, brought over 12 million viewers to theaters.
Ahead of its premiere, 'The Crowned Clown' has released individual posters of the story's 4 male leads, played by Yeo Jin Goo (double roles), Lee Sae Young, and Kim Sang Kyung. In one poster, Yeo Jin Goo wears a smug smile as a palace entertainer, Ha Sun. In another, he sits crookedly on the throne as the king of Joseon, Lee Heon, wearing the troubles of the world on his cold expression. Actress Lee Sae Young fills up her individual poster with a mood of crestfallen sorrow, playing the role of the queen Yoo So Woon. Finally, Kim Sang Kyung plays the role of the king's right-hand man and a key figure in replacing the real king of Joseon with a fake king - Lee Gyu.
A tale of a king who feared for his life so much that he ordered a palace entertainer to replace him as a puppet king on the throne, 'The Crowned Clown' premieres on January 7 at 9:30 PM KST.
