The aftereffects of the tragic Sewol ferry accident back in April has yet to come to a close as a grieving father, Kim Young Oh, of victim Kim Yoo Min continues his fasting demonstration for the 39th day in hopes of meeting President Park Geun Hye.
He had requested this meeting, adding afterwards, "Even Pope Francis met the weak and poor me during his visit to Korea. I expect that she will meet me at least once and request a face-to-face meeting at 3 PM tomorrow (August 21)." However, President Park Geun Hye refused to meet his request.
Spokesperson Min Kyung Ohk of the Blue House (Korea's version of the White House, the presidential headquarters), met with the press on August 21 and said, "A special law is a problem that opposing sides have to come to an agreement on and take care of. I do not think this is something the president needs to get involved in."

On August 19, Kim Young Oh, who has been fasting and sitting for days on end to demand an enactment of a special law on the Sewol tragedy, requested a face-to-face discussion with President Park Geun Hye. He was headed to the Blue House, but got blocked off by police troops.
On this day, representatives of the opposing parties discussed the establishment of a National Assembly for and separate from the Sewol tragedy special law as well as the pending political situation in a closed assembly on the day the provisional session of the National Assembly was ending. People are wondering whether this will result in a dramatic compromise.
Spokesperson Min denied disclosing the President's decision to Kim Young Oh separately.
