NO:EL (real name Jang Yong Jun), son of the late former lawmaker Jang Je Won, has drawn attention for a handwritten letter he posted on Instagram shortly before news broke of his father’s passing on April 1st KST.
In the letter, the 24-year-old rapper expressed deep gratitude toward his fans: “From tiny venues to the stage of my dreams, so much has happened. But you always told me my music brought you comfort—thank you.”
He added: “I’ll perform on bigger stages and become an artist you can be proud of. Even those who’ve left or grown distant—if you ever come back, please love me again. You’re all part of my youth.”
The note concluded with: “Thank you for loving me and helping me achieve my dreams. I love you. See you on May 31st.”
Online commenters responded with concern and sympathy, with many wondering whether NO:EL had yet been informed of his father’s death. Others offered condolences, saying, “His father cared for him deeply. May he rest in peace.”
According to police, former lawmaker Jang Je Won was found deceased around 11:40 PM on March 31st. A three-term National Assembly member, Jang had been under scrutiny for a 2015 sexual assault allegation during his time as a university vice president in Busan. He reportedly left a note saying, “I’m sorry to my family. I love you,” with no mention of the person who had accused him.
NO:EL rose to fame through Mnet’s ‘High School Rapper’ and ‘Show Me the Money 6’ in 2017. He has faced multiple controversies and legal issues throughout his career. In December 2023, he posted a cryptic message on Instagram reading, “Everything will return to its rightful place. Please wait,” fueling speculation that he may have been addressing his father’s past allegations.
