On March 7th at 2 PM, Jennie released her first solo studio album, 'Ruby,' along with the music video for the title track, 'Like JENNIE.'
'Ruby' is an album that showcases Jennie's diverse talents and charms, capturing her unique style. It explores multiple genres and concepts, demonstrating her musical possibilities and broad spectrum as a solo artist. The album features 15 tracks, including 'Like JENNIE,' 'ExtraL (feat. Doechii),' 'Mantra,' 'ZEN,' and more.
The title track 'Like JENNIE,' which Jennie co-wrote and co-composed, embodies a bold and confident image, while staying true to her individuality. The song reflects a moment of realizing that no one can replace her as she walks her own path with confidence.
In the song, Jennie addresses the negative attention and rumors surrounding her, affirming her determination to continue on her own path. The lyrics, "Leave traces in the fitting room, it’ll become hot gossip" and "I don't think about my exes, but they’ll think of me," seem to allude to last year's indoor smoking controversy and the dating rumors surrounding her.
In the chorus of the song, she mentions her own name with the lyrics, “Who else got 'em obsessed like JENNIE? Like, like, like (JENNIE, JENNIE, JENNIE, JENNIE) I think I really like (JENNIE, JENNIE, JENNIE) Haters, they don't really like (JENNIE, JENNIE, JENNIE, JENNIE) 'Cause they could never ever be (JENNIE, JENNIE, JENNIE).” In the second verse, she stated, “Name, shame, blame tryna burst my bubble” and then continued in Korean, “Pop it up in a bigger hall.”

In July of the previous year, Jennie's agency, OA Entertainment, released behind-the-scenes footage from her appearance at an event in Capri, Italy, where she was seen smoking an e-cigarette indoors while getting her makeup done. The smoking, which affected other staff members, sparked criticism.
The agency later issued an apology, saying, "We sincerely apologize to everyone who felt uncomfortable with Jennie's actions. Jennie herself regrets smoking indoors and causing discomfort to the staff, and she has personally reached out to the staff members to apologize. We also apologize to the fans who were disappointed, and we promise to present a more mature and better side of Jennie going forward."
Despite bringing up past controversies, Jennie expressed her shining, irreplaceable value. In response to misunderstandings and negative perceptions, she fiercely rapped lines such as: "Get out of my way. Before Barbie becomes Chucky. Targeting, humiliating, criticizing, trying to make me feel bad, go ahead, burst it out, you’ll meet me in a bigger space," and "Keep talking, because art needs a frame. I did it, I left my mark. Yeah, I’m guilty. Is being good at something a crime?" She boldly declared, "You might dislike Jennie. Because you know you’ll never be her. But have you really seen me?"
'The Like JENNIE' music video also reflects her confidence. Dressed in a red spacesuit, Jennie swallows the letter 'J' and reappears in a cool, hip style. She performs alongside a large crew, battling against fake images and false narratives, illustrating her journey of self-discovery.
In the final scene, after a dramatic sequence where Jennie’s body seems to burn, a capybara appears, symbolizing the shedding of falsehoods and returning to her purest self.
