A Korean drama with an unconventional premise—a wife in her 80s and a much younger husband—is set to premiere soon.
JTBC’s new weekend series, 'More Beautiful Than Heaven,' (tentative English title) tells a love story between Son Suk Goo and Kim Hye Ja. With Son Suk Goo born in 1983 and Kim born in 1941, the leads have an astounding 42-year age difference.
Directed by Kim Seok Yoon and written by Lee Nam Gyu and Kim Soo Jin, 'More Beautiful Than Heaven' centers on a romance that unfolds when 80-year-old Lee Hae Suk (played by Kim Hye Ja) is reunited in heaven with her husband, Go Nak Jun (played by Son Seok Gu), who has been transformed into a youthful version of himself. Their journey into a second life after mortal existence promises both hearty laughter and heartfelt emotion.
In a one-minute teaser released on February 6, Hae Suk is seen boarding a train to heaven following her late husband’s earlier departure. After successfully navigating the entry process, she steps onto a celestial land filled with verdant meadows and dazzling sunshine. There, she encounters her rejuvenated husband, Go Nak Jun. Although both are initially startled by their transformed appearances, they soon learn to rely on each other as they begin their unexpected new life together.
Viewers who watched the teaser expressed their enthusiasm for its inventive concept. Many marveled at the originality of the setup, playfully remarked on the transformation of an 80-year-old into a young version resembling Son Suk Goo, and speculated that the drama might herald the birth of another epic life story from Kim Hye Ja. While some fans admitted that the premiere still felt far off, the unique premise has left them eagerly anticipating the show.

Meanwhile, Go Nak Jun, Hae Suk’s devoted husband, works as a postman in heaven, delivering letters that carry earthly wishes. Having arrived in heaven before his wife, he had expected her to appear in a rejuvenated form like his own. Instead, he is surprised when she appears exactly as she was in life—at 80—setting the stage for an unexpected life together in the afterlife.
'More Beautiful Than Heaven' marks the latest romance venture from two seasoned actors. Kim Hye Ja, known for her heartfelt performances in dramas such as 'Our Blues,' 'Dear My Friends,' 'Country Diaries,' and 'The Light in Your Eyes,' teams up with Son Suk Gu, whose acting prowess has been showcased in films like 'Hit-and-Run Squad,' 'The Roundup,' and dramas including 'D.P.' and 'A Killer Paradox.'
Meanwhile, 'More Beautiful Than Heaven' is scheduled to premiere in April.
