IVE's Yujin has reportedly been cast as an MC for an upcoming dating-themed program.
Yujin has received much love for her candid personality and has been a popular choice for variety shows. However, the latest news that Yujin was cast as an MC for a dating show caused fans to be concerned.
The discussion began in a popular online community when a netizen shared a screen capture of the information regarding the dating show 'Heart Pairing.' According to the information, the show will "follow young people who want to get married, searching for their life partner through three fateful pairings over the course of a month."
The MCs listed for the show include Yoon Jong Shin, Kim Eana, Jang Ki Ha, Park Ji Sun, and Yujin.
Some fans pointed out the age gap between the other MCs and Yujin and expressed concerns about her being on a dating show at a young age. They explained, "I don't want to hear Yujin talk about dating, men, or marriage, especially at her age. What is she supposed to contribute to a show like this?" One fan pointed out that Yujin, born in 2003, was significantly younger than many of the other cast members.
Others criticized Starship for not considering how the show’s premise could affect Yujin's image, particularly given the sensitivity idol fans often have regarding dating-related topics. One fan criticized, "Why would Ahn Yujin even agree to appear on a show like this? Shows like that ask all kinds of personal questions, stir up unnecessary drama, and always bring up topics like dating. Fans have zero interest in hearing or knowing about Ahn Yujin’s views on dating, men, or marriage. Just the thought of it is infuriating. What was Starship thinking when they approved this? Is this their first time managing a girl group?"
Korean netizens continued to criticize Starship's decision to have Yujin on the show. Korean netizens commented:
"Wonyoung’s fridge interview and Yujin’s appearance on this dating show—why does Starship keep putting them on programs that fans don’t like?"
"Isn't there a real possibility that it’s just someone with the same name and could be that musical actor?"
"This combination is ridiculous. Look at the age lineup: 1969, 1979, 1982, 2003, and 1979? Who organizes a panel like this?"
"Seriously though, what kind of advice or reactions is someone born in 2003 supposed to give in that setting? Especially when she’s a top girl group member and a popular one at that…"
"Yujin's schedule is already packed until March, so why squeeze this in? And if Yujin ends up sick again, will they take responsibility?"
"All you need to do is take something off the internet and write using a program—how does that count as proof?"
"Honestly, this post feels fishy. At first, I thought a real fan wrote it, but seeing how they let it stir things up and even kept editing to increase interactions—it’s suspicious."
"The deepfake-related post was off the trending board in just a day. That’s so creepy."
"But seriously, what’s the benefit of going there...? She’s not a senior idol with years under her belt—she’s an active 4th gen idol."
