K-pop groups TWICE, LE SSERAFIM, ILLIT, and TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT) will perform as scheduled at the Japanese year-end music show NHK’s ‘Kōhaku Uta Gassen’, airing on December 31st at 7:20 PM.
On December 30th KST, TWICE expressed condolences through their official account, stating, “We extend our deepest sympathies to the victims of the tragic aviation accident and heartfelt condolences to their families.” They added, “We will participate in the pre-scheduled overseas event with a heart of mourning.”
LE SSERAFIM and ILLIT also shared similar messages, offering their condolences and pledging to carry their feelings of sorrow onto the stage. TXT remarked, “With heavy hearts, we are preparing for the scheduled performance. We will approach the stage with deep respect for those we mourn.”
Japanese outlet Sports Hochi reported on December 30th that NHK, the broadcaster of ‘Kōhaku Uta Gassen,’ expressed their sorrow for the tragic accident. NHK stated, “We are deeply saddened by the loss of precious lives in the aviation incident.” However, they clarified that “there are no plans to alter the program content or the guest lineup.”
The South Korean government has declared a national mourning period until January 4, 2025, leading to speculation in Japan that K-pop groups might withdraw from the show. However, given the proximity of the event and its nature as an overseas schedule, it was deemed challenging to cancel participation.
