The city of Pocheon clarified its stance regarding rumors of removing singer Lim Young Woong from his position as the city’s honorary ambassador, stating, “No such review has taken place.”
On December 10th, Pocheon City stated, “There has been no discussion about dismissing Lim Young Woong as an ambassador, and reports claiming otherwise are false. We have strongly requested the media outlet responsible to correct the inaccurate report.” The city also emphasized its commitment to ensuring accurate information is delivered to its citizens.
The controversy stemmed from a report claiming that a complaint was filed requesting Lim’s dismissal as an honorary ambassador. The report alleged that Pocheon City was planning to review local regulations regarding the matter.
The complaint reportedly arose after Lim Young Woong posted a photo on his social media celebrating his pet dog’s birthday on December 7th, amidst ongoing political unrest following the rejection of President Yoon Suk Yeol’s impeachment motion in the National Assembly.
A netizen shared a direct message (DM) exchange with Lim, questioning him: “What are you doing in a situation like this? I don’t expect you to voice your opinion, but your indifference is truly disappointing. Aren’t people who experienced the last martial law era—your main fanbase—your supporters?”
Lim responded tersely with, “What?” and added, “Am I a politician? Why should I speak up?”
This exchange quickly spread online, leading to criticism of Lim’s dismissive tone and remarks. Despite the backlash, Lim Young Woong and his team have remained silent on the matter.
Lim Young Woong has served as an honorary ambassador for Pocheon City since July 2019. The city has confirmed that his position remains unchanged.
