MV director Shin Woo Seok of Dolphiners Films, the director behind the music videos for NewJeans's "Ditto", "ETA", and "OMG", has filed a defamation lawsuit against CEO Kim Joo Young and vice president Lee Do Kyung of ADOR, media outlets reported on November 8 KST. The reports stated that Shin Woo Seok's lawsuit against the ADOR executives was filed with the Seoul Yongsan Police Station on November 4 KST.
Previously, Shin Woo Seok became embroiled in an ownership dispute with ADOR over the videos uploaded on the YouTube channel 'Ban Heesoo'. These videos feature hidden footage from the filming site of NewJeans's music videos, uploaded under the pretense that the girls were filmed by a classmate named Ban Heesoo.
Back in September, Shin Woo Seok claimed that ADOR had demanded the removal of all videos on Ban Heesoo's channel, threatening to sue Dolphiners Films if not done promptly. However, afterward, ADOR argued that it had made no such request.
In response to ADOR's argument, Shin Woo Seok further exposed ADOR for attempting to "negotiate" with him privately while portraying him as a "liar" in the media. The MV director then announced his intentions to file a lawsuit, saying that ADOR offered him no apology for the incident. Soon afterward, Dolphiners Films also restored all of the videos on Ban Heesoo's YouTube channel.
[UPDATE] ADOR has responded to reports of Shin Woo Seok's defamation lawsuit with the following statement:
"ADOR has already determined that it can not overlook any breaches of contract or violation of intellectual property rights committed against the company. As a result, a civil lawsuit demanding compensation for a breach of contract and other illegal activities was filed against Dolphiners Films and director Shin Woo Seok two month ago. It is quite unfortunate that the director has yet to respond to the civil lawsuit, instead reacting with a baseless lawsuit against the ADOR executives."
