Comedian Kim Byung Man has denied allegations that he assaulted his ex-wife, identified as “A.”
On November 12 KST, Kim Byung Man’s agency, Sky Turtle, stated, “The claims that Kim Byung Man assaulted his ex-wife A are not true.”
The agency explained, “In the divorce proceedings, A claimed that she was assaulted during her marriage to Kim Byung Man, but the court did not accept this claim. At the time A alleged the assault took place, Kim Byung Man was abroad. A made these false claims to gain an advantage in the legal proceedings. The court did not acknowledge it, and the prosecution dismissed it as well.”
They continued, “A has a child in their mid-20s. Since the divorce proceedings are over, A is now seeking to have this child disinherited, demanding 3 billion KRW (approximately $2.5 million USD) from Kim Byung-man as a condition for disinheritance. The property division after the divorce was supposed to proceed, but A made false accusations to avoid having to divide assets,” the agency claimed.
Previously, A claimed in an exclusive interview with SPOTV News that Kim Byung Man had repeatedly assaulted her during their marriage and that he had been transferred to the prosecution (Uijeongbu District Prosecutors’ Office) in July on assault charges.
Kim Byung Man married A in 2011, and they went their separate ways following divorce proceedings that concluded in 2020.
On October 28, Kim Byung Man appeared on Channel A’s "Best Friends Talkumentary: Four-Person Table" and spoke about beginning a separation only a year after marriage. He shared that he had recently asked his wife for a divorce but was refused, stating, “It was really difficult because she kept blocking any communication. I had no choice but to pursue legal measures since we couldn’t come to an agreement.”
Kim Byung Man is currently appearing on TV CHOSUN’s survival reality show "King of Survival: Tribal War", which airs every Monday.
