Ice cream brand Baskin Robbins Korea has issued an apology for the unauthorized use of IVE’s Wonyoung’s catchphrase.
On November 11 KST, Baskin Robbins Korea expressed its regret for using the phrase “Lucky Vicky,” coined by Wonyoung’s positive outlook, in a new product, stating, “We failed to carefully review the verification process. We will strengthen our inspection procedures to ensure that this does not happen again.” However, they clarified that reports of halting sales were “not true,” adding that the product will be sold until stock runs out.
On November 6 KST, Baskin Robbins Korea released a new product called “Lucky Vicky Mochi.” However, since Wonyoung is not a model for the brand, nor had Baskin Robbins Korea sought permission from her to use the phrase, the product stirred controversy. Currently, posts related to the product have been removed.
In May, Wonyoung gained attention for her unique “Wonyoung mindset” of positivity during promotions for IVE’s second EP album 'IVE SWITCH'. Reflecting on the response, she stated in an interview, “I’m really grateful that people view my actions with such warmth and interest. If my ‘Wonyoung mindset’ has brought a moment of positivity to someone, then that alone is truly fortunate for me.”
Meanwhile, Wonyoung debuted in 2018 with the mini-album 'COLOR*IZ' as part of the project group IZ*ONE, formed through Mnet’s audition program 'Produce 48'.
