Singer Kim Jong Kook has found himself in hot water after publicly commenting on broadcaster Jonathan’s congratulatory gift amount.
On a recent episode of the SBS variety show 'Running Man,' Kim Jong Kook, while talking with Yoo Jae Suk, mentioned Jonathan, saying, “Jonathan barely gave anything for the congratulatory gift money at Jo Se Ho’s wedding and was stuffing his face (with food).”
Although the remark was made as a lighthearted joke, it has sparked criticism among viewers.
Some netizens feel the comment is insensitive to the financial burden young people face when giving congratulatory money, especially in times of high inflation. Netizens stated that “criticizing a young person in his early 20s, like Jonathan, over the amount given at a wedding — an event that is already financially burdensome to attend — is inappropriate.”
Jonathan was born in February 2000 and is a national of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
On the other hand, some people argue that “It’s just a variety show” and “It was just a joke meant to be funny; is it really something worth criticizing to this extent?”
Meanwhile, Jo Se Ho tied the knot on October 20 with a non-celebrity bride who is nine years younger at the Shilla Hotel in Seoul.
The wedding was attended by many well-known guests, including Yoo Jae Suk, Kim Jong Kook, and Jonathan, as well as celebrities from across the entertainment industry, such as Lee Dong Wook, Gummy, and Taeyang, creating a lineup comparable to that of an awards show.
Jo Se Ho's wedding received significant public attention, sparking interest in everything from the gift amounts given by celebrity guests to their outfits.
