The student council at Chungnam National University (CNU) has come under scrutiny for requiring personal information and signed pledges from fans who want to film the group aespa during an upcoming university festival.

On October 21st KST, the student council posted an announcement on their official account regarding the 2024 CNU festival “ACCESSIO: Soaring” and aespa’s scheduled performance on the third day of the event, set for October 30th. The council explained that anyone wishing to photograph or film aespa’s performance must first submit a filming permit application, a signed pledge, and a personal information collection and usage agreement. Submissions were accepted from October 21st to 6 PM on October 23rd, after which the council said they would review applications and notify selected individuals privately on October 24th.

This requirement sparked criticism from some online users, one of whom pointed out that the student council is not a registered entity like a bank or credit card company and questioned the legality of collecting personal information without additional consent forms.

The student council further emphasized that unapproved recording devices are strictly prohibited, except for personal smartphones. They also banned the use of tripods, food, footrests, and selfie sticks, and warned that failure to follow staff instructions could result in removal from the event.

Meanwhile, aespa recently made a comeback with their fifth mini-album Whiplash, which quickly topped the iTunes album charts in 17 regions and claimed the number one spot on the Worldwide iTunes Album Chart. The album is also receiving strong support on domestic music charts.
