The 20-year anniversary re-release of the movie Taegukgi: The Brotherhood of War, and corresponding press conference, is scheduled to occur on May 30. At the time of its release in 2004, Taegukgi was a record-breaking film, bringing almost 12 million audience members to the theaters and winning multiple awards. The film depicts the emotional story of two brothers who are drafted into the South Korean army at the beginning of the Korean War.
Prominent figures involved in the making of the film, such as director Kang Je-kyu and co-lead actor Jang Dong-gun, are set to attend the 20-year reunion for the film. To celebrate the anniversary, the movie will be re-released in a remastered version with 4k resolution.
Notably, Won Bin is not on the list of attendees for the celebration, despite being one of the two lead actors in the film. Won Bin has also been on a 14-year hiatus from acting, since his last film The Man from Nowhere (2010). He currently only acts in commercials and is rarely seen publicly.
Netizens have been discussing the reveal that Won Bin doesn’t plan to attend Taegukgi’s reunion:
“I’m sure there’s a lot of pressure on him to come to the event”
“At this point, he's retired as an actor and has become a commercial model. As long as he likes it, it's his life”
“What a waste of good looks and acting skills”
“I’m just saying…isn’t it his responsibility to at least answer questions about whether he’ll come back? I’m not trying to ask rude questions about his personal life, but I’d feel lucky if he came back to acting after 14 years”
“At least he still makes commercials, so it’s not really retirement, right?”
“I think it’s no longer a 14-year hiatus, but just a former actor who has retired now”

Yes, that's not a 14 year hiatus that's retirement from acting. As long as he's happy and has enough money coming in to live, that's what counts.
