The tvN weekend drama 'Queen of Tears' produced by Studio Dragon, has risen to the top of the Netflix charts.
'Queen of Tears' (written by Park Ji Eun, directed by Jang Young Woo, and Kim Hee Won) is a drama that tells the story of Hong Hae In (played by Kim Ji Won), the third-generation heiress of a Queens Group conglomerate and the queen of a department store, and Baek Hyun Woo (played by Kim Soo Hyun), the son of a village chief and the prince of a supermarket. The two are a married couple in their third year, facing a dangerous crisis and a miraculous rekindling of their love. It is currently airing on tvN, Tving, and Netflix.
On April 3, Netflix announced that 'Queen of Tears' had reached the top spot in the global TOP10 series (non-English) ranking (March 25th-31st), proving its global popularity. Since its release on March 9, the accumulated viewing time has reached 93.8 million hours.
According to the global OTT content ranking service FlixPatrol, 'Queen of Tears' has ranked in the TOP10 in a total of 68 countries worldwide, including the US, Canada, Japan, Australia, India, Greece, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Mexico, and Argentina, among others, for both English and non-English TV series after its first broadcast.
Major overseas media outlets are also highlighting the global popularity of the 'Queen of Tears.' The reputable US media TIME published an article on March 29 titled "Queen of Tears Bucks Convention for a Fresh K-Drama Romance Worth Watching." In the article, TIME analyzed the global appeal by stating, "Queen of Tears is a fresh and transformative take on what we’ve come to expect from K-dramas, but it is still a K-romance." and "If there’s one thing that K-dramas do better than any other format, it’s blending genres to create fresh combinations. Queen of Tears does something like this, only instead of genres it’s mixing the familiar and the novel. The result is that Queen of Tears is a story of real love and real life wrapped in the unbelievable trappings of K-drama."
Previously, Forbes also reviewed the drama, stating, "Many k-dramas end with “happily ever after,” but Queen of Tears starts that way, The bride and groom seen in a fairy tale wedding, festooned with garlands of roses, are Baek Hyun-woo, played by Kim Soo-hyun, and Hong Hae-in, played by Kim Ji-won. Unfortunately, their happiness is doomed to fade almost as quickly as those lush roses" and described it as "a work that stands out with solid casting, talented writers, and the synergy of two directors with a track record of successful dramas."
Additionally, The Straits Times, one of the most influential newspapers in Southeast Asia and Singapore's largest daily newspaper, mentioned the characteristics of 'Queen of Tears' as "dynamic storytelling, the chemistry between the lead actors, and appealing casting," praising it as "worth investing time to binge-watch."
On Netflix it says last episode is coming out on April 28. I can't wait for it to finish airing. I'll start watching as soon as it's complete.
I'm really excited for this.
