KBS has released an official statement in response to many viewers' ongoing petitions to stop the variety program 'Hong-Kim Coin' from cancellation.
According to the broadcasting station's statement on January 5 KST, "'Hong-Kim Coin', which began broadcasting in July of 2022, attempted to break from the generic format of today's variety programs such as 'observation realities' or 'dating realities' by focusing on 'laughter', experimenting with multiple formats within a single program. Such experimentation has received positive evaluation from viewers both in Korea and abroad, and as a result, the program was able to successfully build a core viewership."
KBS continued, "In order for the program to reach a broader viewership than the existing core fandom, KBS has made various efforts such as changing its airing time, airing re-runs, program specials, and promotions through other streaming platforms. Yet, despite these efforts, 'Hong-Kim Coin' failed to broaden its viewership."
The broadcasting station further explained, "Due to these reasons, KBS has discussed the cancellation of 'Hong-Kim Coin' since April of 2023. For the next 9 months, the broadcasting station made multiple efforts to broaden the program's viewership, but unfortunately, it was decided that the program could not continue in this state. This decision is the result not only of the program's low viewership rating, but of many factors combined, including the financial burdens faced by KBS."
Unfortunately, it seems that the voices of fans were not enough this time to keep the KBS2 variety program, which starred Hong Jin Kyung, Kim Sook, Jo Se Ho, Joo Woo Jae, and 2PM's Wooyoung, from cancellation this time.
The thing is, this show is hilarious. Their antics crack me up each episode, so I don't know why the ratings are low other than the time slot or maybe there aren't any gen4 idols in the cast to bring more viewers.
