Former Super Junior member Han Geng, who is currently active as an actor in China, opened up about the difficulties he faced during his group activities.
On January 28, an interview video of Han Geng was released on China's online channel 'PhoenixTV.'
In the interview, Han Geng recalled his past as a Super Junior member from 2005 to 2009.
According to the interview, Han Geng graduated from school at the age of 17 and signed a contract with SM Entertainment. Due to the difficult financial situation at his home since childhood, Han Geng had only one thought: to earn money.
He signed a 13-year contract with SM Entertainment. At that time, his father reportedly lamented his own incompetence, saying, "I sold my child."
Han Geng explained, "The trainee days were very difficult," stating that he often didn't even realize if he had suffered injuries due to practicing from morning to night every day.
Despite enduring the tough trainee period and successfully debuting in 2005, all that remained was stress.
Han Geng revealed that he did not receive a large amount of money in his first settlement payment. He said, "As a trainee, I received a monthly allowance and had to return it to the company," adding, "So, my income was less than during the trainee days."
In 2009, Han Geng decided to leave SM Entertainment, claiming the 13-year contract was unfair and involved unreasonable income distribution.
His decision to leave was due to depression and severe stress. Han Geng conveyed that he told his father over the phone, "What if I decide to make an extreme choice (of taking my own life)?"
Thus, he chose to leave Super Junior, and he evaluates that decision as a "very good choice."
He also expressed gratitude for his time in Super Junior as well, saying, "Thanks to my activities in Korea, I was able to grow," and added, "Although it was tough at that time, I am still grateful."
After leaving Super Junior, Han Geng returned to China and began his career as an actor. In 2010, he received various awards, including the MMH China Mainland's Most Popular Singer Award, Huading Award for Outstanding Actor, Best Male Singer Award, Worldwide Actor Award, and Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Award for Best Asian Actor.
In 2019, he married Chinese-American actress Celina Jade after a year of public dating. In 2022, they welcomed their daughter and have been sharing their happy family life.
Han Geng was one of the nicest member of SJ back then. I'm glad he's happy with his choice. He's married now and acting in China.
