The movie 'Past Lives,' helmed by Celine Song, a South Korean-Canadian director, has garnered nominations in five categories at the 81st Golden Globe Awards, as announced on December 11.
As per the list of nominees unveiled by the Golden Globes organizers on the same day, 'Past Lives' is contending for Best Motion Picture - Drama, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Foreign Language Film, and Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama (Greta Lee).
The narrative of 'Past Lives' revolves around the reunion of a man and a woman in New York, reuniting after being separated in their childhood. The film features Korean-American actress Greta Lee and Korean-German actor Yoo Teo in leading roles.
Im Mi Kyung, Vice Chairman of CJ ENM, also took on the role of executive producer for the film, slated for release in Korea in the first half of the upcoming year.
The movie premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, earning critical acclaim and an invitation to compete in the Berlin International Film Festival. Last month, it clinched the Best Film award at the Independent Film and Drama Awards in New York.
At this year's Golden Globe Awards, 'Past Lives' is capturing attention as a strong contender alongside Hollywood productions such as 'Barbie' (9 nominations), 'Oppenheimer' (8 nominations), 'Killers of the Flower Moon' (7 nominations), and 'Poor Things' (6 nominations).

In the Best Director category, director Celine Song competes with Christopher Nolan for 'Oppenheimer,' Greta Gerwig for 'Barbie,' Martin Scorsese for 'Killers of the Flower Moon,' Bradley Cooper for 'Maestro,' and Yorgos Lanthimos, director of the Golden Lion-winning film 'Poor Things.'
