Police apprehended two female YouTubers in their twenties during a live stream on YouTube, where they were seen inhaling a drug known as Zolpidem in a motel.
On November 28, MBN reported that the police had received a notification regarding a live broadcast titled 'Zolpidem,' which was being conducted by YouTuber A in a motel located in Sinchon, Seoul. The report indicated that she was observed inhaling drugs, leading to the police's immediate response and subsequent detention of A.
Upon investigating the location, the police discovered 'Stilnox tablets,' which contain the active ingredient Zolpidem tartrate. Subsequent inquiries revealed that woman B, who was present with A in the motel, had been prescribed Stilnox tablets at a nearby hospital and had provided them to A.
A was transported to the hospital, and reports confirmed that there was no threat to her life.
One police official emphasized, "Even if narcotics are legally prescribed, it is prohibited to share them with others. Consequently, we plan to file charges against both women and conduct a thorough investigation."
Zolpidem tartrate is classified as a nonbenzodiazepine hypnotic, belonging to the imidazopyridine class.
In contrast to other sedatives, Zolpidem tartrate exhibits a pronounced affinity for the α1 subunit of the GABAA receptor at therapeutic doses. This unique characteristic enables its usage with a relatively lower risk of experiencing rebound insomnia or withdrawal symptoms.
Typically, it becomes effective within 30 minutes and has a brief half-life of 2 to 3 hours. Due to its quick onset and short duration, it is frequently prescribed as a sleep aid in everyday life.
Zolpidem tartrate is widely used as a sedative for the treatment of insomnia. However, given its similarities to narcotics in terms of its components, caution must be exercised to avoid legal consequences stemming from its unauthorized acquisition or usage.
