Participating in music programs is a pivotal element of music promotion for K-pop idols. Major broadcast music shows serve as crucial platforms where idols can showcase their music and receive recognition for their weekly achievements in the industry.
Popular music programs highly recognized in South Korea include SBS's 'Inkigayo,' MBC's 'Show! Music Core,' Mnet's 'M Countdown,' MBC M's 'Show Champion,' and KBS's 'Music Bank.' Securing a spot on these prestigious platforms allows idols to showcase their talent and signifies their stature and popularity within the industry, as these stages are typically reserved for major artists.
K-netizens recently uncovered an intriguing fact that BLACKPINK has never made an appearance on the 'Music Bank' broadcast, despite being the biggest K-pop group in the industry.
One netizen pointed out that BLACKPINK made 0 appearances on 'Music Bank' since their debut in 2016 and explained, "The reason they never appeared on the show is that YG fought with 'Music Bank' so they don't send their artists on the show. The last artist to appear on 'Music Bank' was Big Bang in 2015. BLACKPINK debuted in 2016 so they never appeared on the show since their debut. YG allows artists to appear on other KBS (shows) but never 'Music Bank'."
K-netizens commented, "AKMU doesn't appear either?" "But why did they fight again?" "That means TREASURE never appeared on 'Music Bank' either right??" "I mean they're not even kids, why did they fight and decide not to let their artists appear?" "What's fascinating is I think they only had a problem with 'Music Bank' and not with the KBS broadcast," "Still??????? They still don't appear only on 'Music Bank'? I think AKMU does music broadcasts on KBS," "Is it the same as HYBE fighting with MBC?" "It was because they scheduled Big Bang's broadcast schedule without permission, they also took away YG artist's number 1 winning, and when Big Bang appeared on 'Music Bank,' they terrorized them with the lighting. So YG doesn't go on 'Music Bank' after that," and "I really don't get why agencies fight with music programs."
It's the same as beef between HYBE and MBC's Music Core. Their artists still appear on that network but just not the certain music shows. At let's be honest there are too many music shows anyways so its better if the artists can skip one or two and rest for other activities.
