According to an exclusive media outlet report on October 12 KST, ATTRAKT has begun preparations to launch a new 9-member rookie K-Pop girl group in 2024.
ATTRAKT is known as the entertainment label that successfully debuted the 4-member girl group FIFTY FIFTY in November of 2022. Shortly afterward, in February of this year, FIFTY FIFTY released the title track "Cupid" from their first single album, 'The Beginning', and simultaneously launched an 8 billion KRW (~ $6 million USD) viral promotion on TikTok, which quickly attracted massive attention toward the simple, catchy tune. Eventually, "Cupid" went on to become the longest charting K-Pop girl group song on Billboard's 'Hot 100' in history with a 25-consecutive week record, also peaking on the same chart at #17.
Now, with the return of the FIFTY FIFTY members to ATTRAKT after the ongoing legal dispute currently unlikely, the label has decided to draw up plans for a new group debut by summer of 2024. This time, ATTRAKT plans on holding a survival program, through which approximately 7~9 contestants will be chosen as the debuting members of a new K-Pop girl group. The specific details surrounding the audition program are currently unclear; however, ATTRAKT is set on debuting this new team by June of 2024 and will be drawing up plans at a rapid pace moving forward.
It was also reported that ATTRAKT has received over 1,000 demo submissions, from which 5 songs will be selected carefully by CEO Jeon Hong Joon and the A&R team for the new girl group's debut mini album.
In your face, 50/50! Good move Attrakt! Good luck to your new girl group. May they be successful minus the greediness.
