BTS leader RM recently donated 100 million KRW (~73,628 USD) to the Korean Society of Legal Medicine, expressing his support for professional training.
According to the Korean Society of Legal Medicine on September 27, this donation was made through RM's connection with Dr. Lee Ho, a forensic expert and professor at Chonbuk National University, whom he met on the tvN variety show 'The Mysterious Dictionary of Useless Miscellaneous Human Knowledge.'
RM said, "I heard that the process of becoming a forensic expert is extremely difficult," and added, "I empathize with the importance of legal medicine and sincerely respect those who are walking the path of a forensic expert out of a sense of mission. I hope to contribute even a little to the cultivation and support of forensic experts and the development of the Korean Society of Legal Medicine."
Currently, South Korea reportedly has only about 60 active forensic experts. Even more concerning is the limited number of medical professionals seeking to specialize in forensics, with only 2 to 3 per year. Given the scarcity of these vital specialists, RM's contribution is expected to have a real and meaningful impact.
The donation provided by RM will be used for talent development, academic research, and improvements to the legal medicine system by the Korean Society of Legal Medicine. The society plans to award RM a plaque of appreciation and grant him an honorary membership.
