On the morning of August 17 KST, the cast and crew of Mnet's 'Street Woman Fighter' season 2 attended a press conference in light of the show's premiere, coming up next week.
On this day, main PD Kim Ji Eun and MC Kang Daniel joined each of the team leaders who will be representing the 8 competing crews of season 2 - 1MILLION, BEBE, DEEP N DAP, Jam Republic, LadyBounce, Mannequeen, TSUBAKILL, and Wolf'Lo. This season's fight judges Monika and MONSTA X's Shownu, as well as special judges Rie Hata and Aiki, also made an appearance and expressed their thoughts on the new season.
Previously, MC Kang Daniel faced controversy twice during his time as an MC on 'Street Man Fighter', the male counterpart to 'Street Woman Fighter'.
While recording 'Street Man Fighter' with the male dance crews, Kang Daniel commented, "Honestly, I feel so much more comfortable filming with men. I'm so happy that my energy isn't being drained. I was so scared of them [on 'Street Woman Fighter']." The MC's remark was subject to harsh criticism from netizens who felt that Kang Daniel's views were "sexist".
Then, on the live finale of 'Street Man Fighter', Kang Daniel fell to criticism once again for confusing the carbonated beverage brand which was a sponsor of the program ('Seagram's') with a competing brand ('TREVI').
Now, at the press conference for 'Street Woman Fighter 2', Kang Daniel stated, "I spent much time reflecting on myself and my actions. I worried that I was not fit to be an MC, but I was fortunate enough to have the production staff ask me to return. I'm grateful that they consider me as a part of the team. All that's left now is to show the public a good image as an MC of this program. I am doing my best so that I will not be an inconvenience to others, so please watch over the broadcast to see how I do."
Meanwhile, Mnet's 'Street Woman Fighter 2' premieres next week on August 22 at 10 PM KST.
I don't think his comment was sexist tbh. He didn't say anything demeaning about women. He was implying that being the only guy surrounded by strong attitude women who are "fighting" each other was draining. Imagine being the only girl around a bunch of dudes constantly trying to show each other up to see who's the strongest.
