Plastic surgery cases are rising among those who 'wish to look like NewJeans.'
According to the Korea Economic Daily, interest in plastic surgery has increased due to the popularity of present-day idols. An anonymous non-celebrity office worker 'Lee' (aged 26) has recently undergone a surgery to change her hairline without bangs, in order to look like "NewJeans and IVE."
In particular, cosmetic surgery to modify one's hairline is becoming popular, as it allegedly gets rid of extra flyaways and 'cleans up' the outline of your forehead.
Media outlets report that women in their teens and 20s have been taking photos of NewJeans, IVE, and LE SSERAFIM to clinics to replicate their long, straight hairstyle free of any fringes around the face.
Due to the limitation of using makeup to cover up one's hairline, two types of surgeries have developed for those wanting a modification. One requires replacing your scalp taken from the back of your head and pasting it in the front. As a cheaper option, this surgery involves stitches on your head, which may leave a scar.
A second type of surgery requires only a small 'punch machine' like a surgical stapler, and there is no stitching involved.
Meanwhile, plastic surgeons are expressing warning that a hairline cosmetic surgery is highly prone to side effects and that one must check thoroughly if the procedure is compatible. Some aesthetic side effects also include turning into a 'doll's head,' with an unnatural outcome, and that planting hair also depends on the thickness of one's natural hair and the eyebrows.
Furthermore, newly formed patches on the head due to surgery can apparently lead to itches and swelling.
