JTBC's 'Dr Cha' recently concluded its run after enjoying enthusiastic response from viewers. In fact, the show ended up reaching the #2 spot on Netflix's Global Top 10 TV (non English) list as the series released its final two episodes with over 29 million hours watched from May 29 through June 4.
Most fans were expecting to see Uhm Jung Hwa's character end up with Min Woo Hyuk's character by the end of the series and were left feeling disappointed. The two characters were shown early on sharing great chemistry and undertones of romantic tension. However with the end of the drama, it was shown that after the time jump, Cha Jung Sook is working in her own small practice, and Roy Kim had moved on and was dating another woman as Cha Jung Sook had wished for him.
Min Woo Hyuk recently shared that he himself was not a fan of the ending his character Roy Kim got, and stated that he had hoped for a more fleshed out ending that explored his character's desire for family.
It seemed that Korean netizens had a lot of thoughts on the finale of the show, as they flooded an online community to share their opinions.
"When I saw the ending, I wondered if the world's view of infidelity had changed this way, and I wondered if both sides could understand each other and be friends, but my sister and mom who were watching got angry, so I thought I wasn't the only one who was weird."
"Eh? I thought it was a completely good ending... It was a much more realistic and wholesome ending than one where he couldn't forget Jung Sook and lingered in his feelings."
"Why did they have him meeting another woman at the end?"
"No, it wouldn't work, but it's too much for Roy Kim to have a girlfriend."
"I liked the ending... Jung Sook explained everything with her lines. Even if it were me, I think I'd like to live a calm life after two liver transplants, a divorce because I was cheated on, a new job, and even dealing with my mother's illness... I need to meet a nice person. It came out that time has passed quite a bit at the end. If an attractive man with amazing qualities doesn't meet a single girl and keeps waiting for Jung Sook, that's also strange. And suddenly having Jung Sook hook up with her friend, isn't that the worst? It's unfortunate, but it showed enough to show the opposite of Catastrophe, and it caused dramatic tension, and I thought it was just a realistic ending for the supporting actors."
"I was a bit disappointed with the Roy character. It's a character that could have gone viral if he was developed more, but he was only used to make the husband jealous."
"It must not have been easy for an actor to say this directly, so he must have been very upset."
"He's so cool, he really was too much for Roy Kim."
"It seems like the actors conceived and understood the character better than the writer..."
"I don't know why people were looking for realistic. I didn't want the realistic ending."
"I was a bit disappointed with the Roy character. It's a character that could have gone viral if he was developed more, but he was only used to make the husband jealous."
So sad on how the ending for Roy Kim is
