News Anchors in Hong Kong under fire for dancing to Jisoo's 'Flower' On Live TV

Five news anchors from Hong Kong's Cable TV News are facing criticism following a surprise dance performance to Jisoo's hit song "Flower," broadcast live on television.

Marking their last day at the broadcasting company, the anchors delivered an impromptu performance that quickly took social media by storm. Uploaded with a self-deprecating caption, "Not a professional cover. We’re five flowers that only practiced on this day. But the heels are really noisy," the footage of the anchors energetically dancing to the K-pop sensation's hit has since gone viral.

The clip was actually noticed by Raymond Wong, Chairperson of the Committee on Review of Public Service Broadcasting and former Assistant General Manager of Television Broadcasts Limited who left a comment on the post saying their actions were, "a true disgrace to the craft of journalism!"

Reports reveal that the Director of Cable TV News responded to the recent on-air dance performance with a stern email titled "Usage of the Newsroom". Expressing regret over the perceived unprofessionalism of the anchors, the Director underscored the serious nature of their profession.

The email read, "From the diligent process of gathering information to the responsibility of reporting news, our work is both professional and serious. The esteemed reputation of Cable TV News has been built through the collective hard work and relentless dedication of our entire team.

I trust that everyone understands we operate as a single entity. The dichotomy of individual versus group doesn't exist here. Each of your actions reflects on 'Cable TV News' as a whole. I urge everyone to work collaboratively and be mindful of your words and actions.

Our newsroom stands at the heart of our department, bearing symbolic significance. Its primary function should be to produce the most timely, current, and professional news reports for our audience. It should not be mistaken as a stage for amusement or frivolity."

In the aftermath of this incident, the viral dance video was swiftly removed from media platforms. Shortly after, one of the anchors posted a candid explanation regarding the video's removal, stating, "Upper management is not pleased. The dancing video has to be removed. Thank you for everyone’s support."
