SM Entertainment's boy group NCT was introduced by the label back in 2016 and garnered much attention being the largest idol group in South Korea with 23 members.
NCT promotes a unique system in which the group is divided into different subunits, such as NCT U, NCT 127, NCT Dream, and WayV. The subunits promote separately and release albums separately but have come together as a whole to record three full-length albums.
Also, NCT technically does not have a fixed number of members since their concept is an "ever-expanding group" with new members being added periodically.
The latest expansion that was announced is NCT Tokyo, and SM Entertainment has been posting recruitment announcements seeking new members to join NCT. Many fans have voiced their concerns about the expansion of the group. Many fans were concerned that the addition of more members will cause SM Entertainment to become less attentive to the existing members. Fans have already been expressing their dissatisfaction about the subunits of NCT that are not promoting as much as they should.
Luckily, this will be the last expansion of NCT as SM Entertainment announced that NCT Tokyo will be the last expansion.
On February 24, SM Entertainment announced, "We will change to become the SM for fans. With NCT Tokyo's 2023 debut, NCT's infinite expansion will come to an end. There will be no member changes and we will give full support to the existing members."
After hearing the announcement of the expansion coming to an end, fans were ecstatic and expressed their joy on various online communities. Netizens and fans commented words of congratulations and shared, "Congrats!" "I'm excited," "They are releasing a new boy group," "The members must have gone through so much hardship," "Wow, finally. They need to take care of the existing members," "finally," "Thank you..." "I was waiting for this," "Wow, finally, thank you," and "They are finally listening to the fans."
