After eight long, long years since MAMAMOO's debut, it has finally happened. During the "ILLELLA" title track promotions for the group's 12th EP "MIC:ON" their 8-year streak of not dropping the cake has finally come to an end on SBS Inkigayo. After the group's performance, the dancers for the "ILLELLA" promotions gifted them a beautiful "MIC:ON" themed cake to celebrate. Not even 1 minute later after receiving this gif, the cake was on the floor.
Solar shared the incident with the group's fans on a post on her personal Instagram, including a full-length video of how the tragic event occurred. In her post, the singer stated that with this performance, MAMAMOO promotions for "ILLELLA" are over, and although everyone is tired, she was thankful to everyone who made the promotions enjoyable.
The singer continues further by thanking both the dancers and staff working behind the scenes: "<...> Also to the dances who performed with us for moomoos. Who have been waiting for us for a long time. The Staff, who have worked hard in front and behind the scenes and to the people we've met during this promotions. Thank you so much". The post then ended with the singer apologizing to the dancers who gifted the group the cake, as they all felt bad it accidentally fell down.

Upon seeing the fact that the kpop idol cake curse had finally taken MAMAMOO, fans quickly took to Twitter to express their shock since it took 8 years. Others pointed out that the cake tried to escape on its own, and technically MAMAMOO did not drop it. As the cake was on the table and fell on its own accord without any member even holding or touching it. But needless to say, it seems MAMAMOO 8 year long streak of never dropping a cake came to an abrupt end on the 23rd of October 2022, after their final promotion stage for "ILLELLA" on Inkigayo.
What do you think did the cake actually try to escape on its own, or did the kpop idol cake curse finally strike?
It was the table’s fault! Their streak is still intact 😤
