K-Pop idols don't only sing, dance, and do cute aegyo. Many of them also venture into acting and are great at it too. Some might watch a certain K-Drama because of their favorite idols, and some didn't even know that they're idols to even begin with. While there are many idols who are in the acting scene, here are 16 actors that you may or may not know were idols.
ZE:A Im Siwan and Park Hyungsik
After debuting in 2010 with the song "Mazeltov," both of them debuted as actors in 2012, with Im Siwan in the drama Moon Embracing the Sun and Park Hyungsik in an SBS' special drama I Remember You. Siwan is popularly known for his role as Ki Seon Gyeom in the JTBC's 2020 drama, Run On. While Hyungsik is known for being in the 2016 Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth alongside his best friends, Park Seojoon and BTS V, and the 2017 drama Strong Girl Bong-Soon.
There's nothing IU can't do. She shines so radiantly both on stage and in the dramas she stars in. This one-woman singing sensation recently sold out her 2-day concert at the Jamsil Olympic Stadium Seoul, The Golden Hour: Under the Orange Sun, where many idols were also seen to have attended as well. She is best known for her role in the dramas Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo (2016), My Mister (2018), and Hotel del Luna (2019).
D.O., or "Do Kyung Soo," is known for being the stoic prince in the 100 Days My Prince drama back in 2018, but he is the main vocalist of SM Entertainment's boy group, EXO. After completing his mandatory military service, D.O. came back with his solo album, Empathy, and back on the screen with the drama Bad Prosecutor, which is currently airing.
Jinyoung not only melts our ears with his charmingly beautiful voice, but he also gives us hearty eyes whenever he's on screen. Known as GOT7's lead singer, he has also starred in numerous films and dramas. His latest role was as Yoo Bobby in both seasons of the webtoon adaptation of the same name, Yumi's Cells,
Minhyun, who is more known as the main vocalist of the group NU'EST and Wanna One, is new to the acting scene. After showing a magnificent performance in his role as Count Axel Von Fersen in the Marie Antoinette musical in Seoul, he was cast to play a high-schooler in a 2020 drama Live On, and recently as a mage in the popular tvN drama, Alchemy of Souls.
Before debuting with his group ASTRO in 2016, Eunwoo first debuted as an actor in 2015. He acted in the drama My Brilliant Life with a minor role and had the main role in the famous webtoon adaptation drama, True Beauty. Not only is he busy being an idol, writing songs for the group, modeling, and attending Sungkyunkwan University, but he is also in a bunch of movies, dramas, and web-series. Is there anything he can't do?
Golden Child's youngest member made his acting debut two years after debuting as an idol. You might have noticed him in the drama 18 Again, an adaption of the 2007 American film 17 Again. He played the role of Seo Jiho, the twins' childhood friend in the drama, where he left an impressive impression of how much he has grown in his acting.
She has been in numerous popular dramas, such as Suspicious Partner and My Mister, but her most famous role would be as Oh Soo Ah in the 2020 JTBC drama, Itaewon Class. But before she became an actress, she was one of the original members of the group Hello Venus, where she was the vocalist. Her most recent project was tvN's Bulgasal: Immortal Souls, which aired from December 2021 to February 2022.
2PM Junho and Ok Taecyeon
After inviting us over to their house (which I don't remember seeing an address), these two 2PM members are busy in the acting scene. Both of them have starred in countless films and dramas as early as 2010, only 2 years after the group's debut. Junho's role in his most recent drama, The Red Sleeve, and Taecyeon's most popular role in Vincenzo, both deserved 10 points out of 10 points.
Debuted in 2012 with his group BTOB, Sungjae has also starred in countless dramas. You may have noticed him as Yoo Deokhwa in the 2016 famous drama Guardian: The Lonely and Great God. He was also in JTBC's Mystic Pop-up Bar before enlisting in the military in 2020 and is back in a new drama, The Golden Spoon, that is currently airing.
Girls' Generation Choi Sooyoung and Seohyun
Girls' Generation are not only legends in the idol world; they are also great actresses too. So many of their members have dived into acting, and they are all doing so well. Alongside ZE:A's Siwan, Sooyoung was also in the drama Run On and was known for her great chemistry with Kang Tae Oh. Seohyun was also recently in the drama Jinxed at First, where she looked absolutely dreamy and fairy-like.
Before he was an angel in Angel's Last Mission: Love, and a cat-boy in Welcome, he is an idol from Woollim Entertainment's boy group, INFINITE. His adorable smile and charming personality can be seen both on stage and in his acting. He's not only a heart stealer, he's also a scene stealer.
Debuted with his group B1A4 in 2011 under WM Entertainment, Jinyoung is known for his role in the 2016 drama Love In The Moonlight and 2021's Police University, as his comeback drama after finishing his mandatory military service.
