Mnet has decided to stop using the stylization of the 'Street Man Fighter' dance crew BANK TWO BROTHERS as "BIIB" after criticism from fans.
Previously, Mnet introduced the dance crews competing on this summer's anticipated dance competition program, 'Street Man Fighter'. However, one of the crews, named BANK TWO BROTHERS, quickly caused confusion among fans and viewers as the crew's name was constantly referred to as "BIIB", sounding similar to the K-Pop group BTOB. Furthermore, some BTOB fans angrily pointed out that the logo used by Mnet for BANK TWO BROTHERS closely resembled BTOB's logo used during the team's debut days.
In fact, Cube Entertainment even issued a statement regarding the issue on July 8, assuring fans that they have requested for Mnet to stop using the stylization of BANK TWO BROTHERS as "BIIB", and for the crew to change their logo.
Soon afterward, Mnet followed up on the issue with a statement which reads as follows:
"Hello, this is the production staff of Mnet.
We would like to notify you regarding the name of the 'Street Man Fighter' crew BANK TWO BROTHERS.
The stylization 'BIIB' was already being used by BANK TWO BROTHERS prior to their appearance on 'Street Man Fighter'. However, we are aware of the confusion that the stylization is causing, and so in order to reduce confusion and optimize functionality, it has been decided that the crew will only be referred to using its full name from now on.
The crew's logo and signal will also be changed for better creativity soon after a speedy revision process. Beginning next week, Mnet will showcase a revised version.
We ask you for your continued support for 'Street Man Fighter', coming every Tuesdays beginning in August."
I'm glad that Cube finally listened to fans and took care of their artists. Seeing as BTOB was just on Kingdom It doesn't suprise me that MNET would try to benefit off something similar to garner attention for this show. Cube reached out to MNET and it seems like MNET is doing the right thing in making changes. They were too similar and too close and calling them BTOB is confusing to people who are huge fans of the Kpop group.
But you can all go ahead and downvote for me for whatever stupid ass reasons you have.
